FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Three people were found dead Sunday after passersby discovered a car at the bottom of Union Bridge Quarry in Frederick County, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office (FCSO).
Around 8:35 a.m., deputies were called to the Union Bridge Quarry in the area of Lehigh Road and Peter Shriner Road, officials said.
The preliminary investigation shows that a 2022 Dodge Charger was speeding, went off the roadway, and plunged into the bottom of the dry quarry,
Those killed in the crash were identified as Kortney Angleberger, 28, of Keymar, Maryland, Robert Grossnickle, 65, of Woodsboro, Maryland, and Rachel Willis, 23, of Dickerson, Maryland.
FCSO deputies made all next of kin notifications.
Officers found a car propped upright with a male and a female victim inside, Wivell said.
Another female had been ejected from the car higher up in the quarry, he said.
The Union Bridge Quarry is owned by Heidelberg Materials US, Inc., according to Wivell. The surrounding area of Liberty Town and Union Bridge is very rural and consists of many curvy roads.
The quarry itself is relatively deep, although officials did not have exact measurements on hand.
First responders will remain at the scene for an undetermined amount of time, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing.

A group of hardworking Rockville Rotarians with the leadership of Edco Bailey set up the field on Friday. Yesterday, on Saturday morning, we had a beautiful opening ceremony at the Rockville Rotary Flags for Heroes field. The ceremony was attended by Rockville Mayor Bridget Newton, Rockville Council Member Monique Ashton, Captain Mia Humphries from Civil Air Patrol, Rockville Rotarians, friends of Rockville Rotary, members from grant recipient organizations and community members. If you have missed the ceremony, you can watch it by clicking this link:
We received the attached Congratulations and Honoring of Heroes Document from the City of Rockville for which we are very grateful for.
Our friend and aerial photographer Tim Pruss joined the ceremony and shared a few beautiful aerial images from the ceremony with us.
Community members passing by stop by, take pictures, some make a great effort to come and visit the field. It is such a big joy to be there and speak with community members expressing their appreciation. One reminds themselves why they are a Rotarian at moments like this. We talked with many community members from King Farm or around who expressed profound interest in joining our Club.
